What is the wood floor drying?

Dealing with water damage is stressful enough. But what happens if my beloved hardwood flooring has been saturated by the water? This is a situation where it may be possible to actually salvage your flooring through a specialty drying scenario. To address this, 24/7 Restoration Technicians have been trained to determine if the extent of the damage allows for the possibility to use a floor matt drying system. This would be a special set of drying equipment specifically designed to dry out hardwood. This system can also be used for other applications.

How do I know if it can be saved?

There are a few tell tale signs that can indicate floors that may be salvaged with the floor drying system versus planning on pulling out and replacing on the reconstruction side.

Here a few examples:

• Discoloration
• Glue has already popped under the planks
• Mold has already manifested
• Category 3 water (contaminated)
• Crowning
• Cupping
• Finish peeling

However, under the right conditions when moisture is detected but does not have the signs listed, we can present the option to try and save the flooring. Most hardwood can be saved as long as there is no damage. Time it takes to complete the drying will vary on the specific type of hardwood you have. Engineered flooring can at times take longer to dry due to it having multiple layers (low permeability). Because the process can take longer to dry you may opt to just replace rather than deal with class 4 specialty drying which can be more pricey on the front end but save money on the back end of the process. Everyone has a threshold and you may just want to save the floor at all costs while others do not want to deal with a long dry down. Additionally, the square footage of affected area will also determine how quickly it can be done if possible. This will also play into the insurance carriers decision to attempt it or just payout for the flooring replacement. Ask your inspecting technician if this is something that can be done for your loss.
